More than 220 college students and veterinarians representing 23 universities from throughout North The us competed in the 22nd once-a-year AVMA Animal Welfare Assessment Contest, or AWJAC, held Nov. 18-20 in individual at North Carolina State College. The contest experienced been held almost for the prior two years since of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this most recent contest, undergraduates, veterinary and graduate pupils, and AVMA member veterinarians evaluated the welfare of demonstrate chickens, dairy-beef cattle, an octopus in an aquarium, and shelter canines and cats. Contestants introduced their findings to authorities from a 12-member panel of researchers and veterinarians.
The AWJAC teaches college students to evaluate the welfare of animals in a variety of settings working with science-based methods and reasoning. Pupils are specified the option to weigh evidence and present audio evaluations.

The Animal Welfare Evaluation Contest was founded in 2001 at Michigan State University as the Animal Welfare Judging and Evaluation Contest and was modeled right after classic livestock, horse, and meat judging competitions.
