Noozhawk’s inaugural Four-Legged Friends and More Guide is officially here! We have sniffed out local businesses that best cater to the needs, health, comfort, training, exercise, and general welfare of our furry companions!
To provide a closer look at the pet establishments in Santa Barbara County, Noozhawk has conducted a series of interviews with representatives of local businesses for this year’s Four-Legged Friends and More Guide that will be sure to have your tail wagging.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Mary Scott, Owner and CEO of PamperPet – Pet Concierge, to learn more about the pet services they offer.

Q: How long have you been in this industry?
A: 12 years.
Q: What makes your business or practice unique?
A: At PamperPet we are both pet and client oriented, serving both the pets in our care and their owners with the best service possible. We customize service plans, keeping each pet and owner’s individuality in mind. We do well in accommodating client special requests and last minute scheduling, for example.
Q: What training, education and experience do you and your staff have? Do you hold any professional certifications?
A: I am a Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS) and a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI). I have been trained in pet first aid and CPR. I regularly attend professional pet sitting conferences and engage in continuing education. My six staff members are well trained, professional, caring and conscientious.
Q: How do you help make your client feel at ease leaving their pet in your care?
A: From the initial meet and greet, and in every report I send clients when they are away from their pet, I allow the passion I have for pet care show, along with my vast knowledge, caring and experience.
Q: How do you manage behavioral problems?
A: We manage any behavioral issues that arise with utmost compassion and kindness, combining following owner instructions with using our own professional knowledge and experience.
Q: What do you do if a pet is aggressive towards you, your staff, or other animals?
A: Putting human safety first is our top priority, closely followed by protecting the safety of the pets in our care. Compassion, care, a calm presence and demeanor, all work wonders in defusing any aggressive situation.
Q: Are you currently accepting new clients?
A: We are welcoming new clients.
Q: What kinds of challenges have you faced within the pet care industry? How did you or your team manage them?
A: Pet loss is very challenging for pet owners, and also for pet caretakers and pet sitters. My staff and I care deeply for the pets we care for, and when they pass away we grieve as do the pet owners. To help with this I have participated in a pet loss support group offered quarterly by Hospice of Santa Barbara, and refer my clients who have lost a pet to this wonderful group.
Q: What are your hours of operation?
A: We work 365 days a year, 24/7 in the services we provide. Office hours are 9 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week, with response times delayed a bit on weekends.
Q: What is one fun fact about your business?
A: I am starting to board pets at my home on the Mesa, on a case by case basis. It’s very fun and exciting.
Q: Is there anything you would like to tell our readers that was not mentioned above?
A: The only things I love more than all the pets in our care is growing my business so I can provide even more lovely clients with quality help with their pet care!
